I’m sharing news about my new project, a biography about the incredible Margaret Bourke-White. The publisher is Bloomsbury; the series is “Women Making History,” with distribution to universities and libraries, not retail. I was first attracted to her industrial photography, and then learned not only that her story is literally unbelievable, but she wrote, too. She wrote as a way to process what she’d seen, out in a violent world, having traveled to just about everywhere.

Born in 1904, she was a feminist in the true spirit of the world, insisting that she cover world events with her camera. She wrote a memoir, and many others have written about her. I’m not a scholar. What I hope to do is follow her and then try to convey a scene, scene by scene, starting with her ground breaking experiences shooting the process of making steel. I have a structure for the book, in 3 sections, and I have an excellent editor. You can follow the progress of my project on my Substack.
